Today’s Bible story, The Ascension, is from the book of Acts. The writer of the Gospel of Luke also wrote the book of Acts. The Gospel of Luke is about Jesus’ life on earth. In Acts, we learn what the disciples did after Jesus ascended to heaven.

Read the story from the Spark StoryBible page 498 (or you can read Acts 1:6-14 in your Bible)

  1. Who ascended up to heaven?
  2. What job did Jesus give to his disciples here on earth?
  3. How do you think the disciples felt after Jesus ascended?

Before Jesus rose up to heaven, he gave his disciples something to do here on earth. What was it?

[Jesus said] “But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you; and you will be my witnesses.” Acts 1:8

In this Bible verse, witnesses means people who point to something important. Jesus is telling the disciples that each one of them will point others to him by telling stories about him. And God’s Spirit will help the disciples tell people all around their world the story of Jesus’ life, death and resurrection.

God has given each of us different talents - different things that we are good at doing. Which things are you good at or enjoy doing? Go te

Jesus gave us a message “Go tell stories about me!” How can you use your talents to tell others about Jesus?

Some ideas may include:

  • Read the Bible
  • Sing about Jesus
  • Draw pictures of church and Bible stories
  • Invite your friends to church and Sunday school (hopefully soon)
  • Pray for others

Let us pray:

Dear Jesus,

Thank you for coming down to earth

to teach us about your love.

thank you for loving each of us.

We love you!

The Lord bless you and keep you;

the Lord make his face to shine upon you, and be gracious to you;

the Lord lift up his countenance upon you, and give you peace.
