Brothers and Sisters in Christ,
Welcome to Trinity Lutheran Church's website. Trinity is a gathering of Lutheran Christians participating in the mission of Christ in Yankton, South Dakota, the nation, and the world. There are many activities and forms of mission that occur at and through this church and we are always open to new ideas. This web site has some of our callings posted on it and some information pertaining to each opportunity.
We are called to serve Christ with the gifts we have been blessed with by God and all are welcomed to share their gifts in this church. Please know that you are welcome to join us in this place as we proclaim the gospel of our Lord. And may the Lord bless you as you live in His grace. Amen.
IN LUTHER'S FOOTSTEPS . . . .
Although 2017 will mark the 500th anniversary of Martin Luther's nailing his 95 theses to the church door in Wittenberg, 2010 marks the 500th anniversary of his 1000-mile walk to Rome (where his goal was to say mass in every church in the city). Luther's walk is being re-created by Sarah Hinlicky Wilson and her husband. She is a research professor at the Institute for Ecumenical Research in Strasbourg, France, and editor of the journal Lutheran Forum. You can follow their walk (which began August 22) on their excellent website which includes a daily diary, photos and links to Luther's writings, history and theology. The web address is: hereiwalk.org.
New Member Orientation
To help you consider or prepare for membership at Trinity, we invite you to our new member orientation in the Friendship Room (main floor) on September 12th and 19th at 7:00 p.m. On these two Sunday evenings, adults will explore the basics of the Christian faith and what it means to be “Lutheran”.
Those who accept the invitation to join will be received into membership the weekend of September 25/26 with a reception at 9:30 a.m. on the 26th. If you have not already done so, please call Darlene or Doris at the church office (665-7415) and let them know you are interested in membership.
Trinity’s Church service may be seen Tuesday evenings (6:30-7:30) on Cable Channels 3 or 98.
Fifteenth Sunday after Pentecost
Called to contemplate the cost of discipleship today, we might be helped by translating Paul’s request to Philemon into our prayer of the day: Refresh my heart in Christ. Strengthened by the company and forgiveness of the Christ in the blessed sacrament and recalling God’s grace in remembrance of baptism, we can be strengthened in this hour to “choose life” - to choose life in God as our own.

“I Love To Tell The Story” is a favorite hymn that is often sung in the fall as we once again return to Sunday School and Wed night activities. In this hymn we are reminded that to tell the story is to share the Good News of Jesus Christ.
My question for all of you is this: “How are you telling the Story?” I realize that summer worship attendance is always frustratingly poor, but are you telling the story when you are not coming to worship? What are we saying when it seems there are always more reasons not to come to worship than reasons to come? How are you telling the story when our offerings just barely pay for the basic needs and not for growing in our mission?
Do you remember how it was you learned of Jesus Christ and His love? Do you remember who first shared the story with you? Most likely it was told to you by your parents or Sunday School teachers. I believe that here at Trinity there are still people who have not heard the story and there are parents who have not regularly brought their children to Sunday School and worship. How will the story continue on if children never hear it in the first place? That old, old story needs to shared over and over again.
Think about how the world came to know about Jesus Christ. Think about how the world came to know of a Mighty God who created all things. If people had not shared this story with one another, we may not have the opportunities we now have to let others know about Jesus and His love.
How are you telling the story? I will be importune in reminding all of you that as God’s Chosen Ones our purpose is to gather for the giving of praise and thanks to God our Father for all the blessings we have received.
How are you telling the story with your time, talent, and possessions? We have the greatest story ever to tell so I pray you come to worship. Come often and then share the story.
Our fall schedule begins soon. If you have not been active, now is the time. Come and help us grow and learn together about the grace and love of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.
Shalom, See you soon,
Pastor Dave
